ADUs

Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are attached or detached residential structures that are accessory to a single-family dwelling. The City allows these units in any residential zone, a maximum of one per lot, and with certain size limitations (900 square feet or 60% of the primary dwelling's floor area, whichever is smaller). 

To apply, the following should be submitted to the Planning department, along with a check for $200. 

  • One set of to-scale plans (paper or digital) including a site plan, floor plan, and elevation drawings.
  • Complete signed Land Use Application and Accessory Dwelling Unit addendum.
  • If the property is located in a hazard overlay, floodplain, or other natural hazard area, additional permits may be required. 

**EFFECTIVE JUNE 30TH, 2024, THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT WILL BE ENDING THE ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT (ADU) AMNESTY PROGRAM.  THIS PROGRAM WAIVED THE SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT CHARGES (SDC) FOR NEW ADU APPLICATIONS.  AFTER JUNE 30TH, SDC'S WILL NEED TO BE PAID BY THE APPLICANT.**
