Long Range Planning & Projects

In addition to processing applications for development, the Planning Department is also responsible for assisting the community in developing plans for the future of Bandon. These long range plans include the Comprehensive Plan, Transportation System Plan, Housing Needs Assessment, and Parks Master Plan.

Long range planning also deals with the implementation of ordinances and plans, as well as growth management. These projects might include housing, parking, infrastructure, or natural hazards.

Parks & Recreation

The Planning Department shares the responsibility of staffing the Parks & Recreation Commission with Public Works. This Commission works to implement projects listed in the Parks & Recreation Master Plan and to indentify and address existing and expected gaps in our city park system. Jetty Pathway Project

In 2009, ownership of South Jetty Park was transferred from Coos County ot the City of Bandon. Subsequently, the City's Parks Master Plan was amended to include this park and the Parks & Recreation Commission, in partnership with the Planning and Public Works Departments, have been working diligently ever since to develop plans for new facilities. One of those facilities was creating a pathway that connects First Street SW in Old Town, out to the Jetty. This was also planned for the the City's Bicycle and Pedestrian Facilities Map.
